Douglas Bergeron, the former CEO of VeriFone (PAY) Systems Inc, and private equity company GTCR formed Opus Global Holdings. The newly-formed venture would invest up to USD 500 million to acquire assets from companies in the financial industry. Of the amount, Bergeron said USD 450 million would come from GTCR while he would give up to USD 50 million.

In an interview with Bloomberg, Bergeron said Opus could also purchase assets from his former company VeriFone. "Anything is possible, if they had a business we thought was interesting. In the future, if VeriFone stumbles further, I don't want to exclude VeriFone, either."

Some analysts told Bloomberg that VeriFone could be a target for acquisition for private equity firms. Product delays had caused the credit and debit card terminal maker to lose half of its value in April last year.

Bergeron would be the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Opus Global Holdings. It would hold headquarters in Palo Alto, California.
