BlackBerry sales in India declined to more than half so far this year. This was after consumers had largely shy away from the Canadian firm's new handsets that were running on the BB10 platform. The decline in sales showed the rapid drop in the worldwide fortunes of BlackBerry which was once dominated the smartphone industry.

The sales of BlackBerry had declined by more than 50% year after year. This year, it had failed to conquer the smartphone industry due to poor sales of BB10 devices including Z10, Q10 and Q5. The Mobile Store and UniverCell Telecom had been distributing BlackBerry handsets in India. The two of the largest retailers in India for BlackBerry were accounted for more than half of the total smartphone sales.

According to The Mobile Store chief executive Himanshu Chakrawarti, "The BB10 devices have not gained traction the way BlackBerry had anticipated they would in India. BlackBerry sales are losing ground rapidly to Android devices from Samsung and Sony, and Apple's iPhone."
