China's richest man and property developer Wang Jianlin unveiled his planned USD8.17 billion "motion-picture city". Wang said this would be the biggest single investment in the television and movie industry.

The 58 year old founder of Dalian Wanda Group was surrounded by big Hollywood stars including John Travolta, Catherine Zeta-Jones and Nicole Kidman when he made the announcement last Sunday. This was Wang's most ambitious project yet to be constructed in the picturesque coastal city of Qingdao, said a Reuters report.

The film park would be completed by 2017. The Oriental Movie Metropolis would boast 20 sound stages. It would also include the very first underwater studio in the world. This would also include a massive convention and exhibition complex. A shopping mall was also said to be included with an indoor amusement park. Sever resort hotels were also expected to rise in the complex.

Wang said in a statement, "The Oriental Movie Metropolis is a major step in China's strategy to become a global cultural powerhouse."
