Splunk Inc. is a leading software platform for real-time operational intelligence. Today, it announced entering into an acquisition agreement to acquire BugSense Inc. The latter is a leading analytics solution provider for machine data generated by mobile devices.

The addition of BugSense would boost the ability of Splunk clients to analyze machine data directly from mobile devices. Customers would also have the chance of correlating data with other machine generated data to gain operational intelligence.

According to Godfrey Sullivan, Chairman and CEO, Splunk said, "Enterprise applications and IT investments are increasingly shifting to mobile, making it an important source of data for operational intelligence. BugSense has a strong mobile development team and is an exciting addition to our product portfolio. Our goal is to make it easier for customers to gain insights from machine data generated by mobile devices, along with other machine-generated data, across Splunk's core use cases in IT operations, security, application management and business analytics."
