Bob Newhart was emotional when he received his first Emmy win after five decades in show business. The 84-year old actor got the acclaim for his role as Professor Proton in last season's "The Big Bang Theory." He received a standing ovation from the audience. "This is my seventh shot at this. ... I just love this very much," he said.

Newhart told ABC News backstage that he had almost given up on the Emmy award. He said, "I just felt the kind of stuff I do doesn't win awards. I didn't want to go through the process, the disappointment."

Newhart's comedic style made its mark to TV audiences in "The Bob Newhart Show" in the 1970s and then in the 1980s in "Newhart."

According to Celebrity Net Worth, the TV actor has a net value of USD 65 million. His wealth came not only from his two sitcoms but from the sales of his comedic monologue albums. "The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart" became number one on the Billboard charts when it was released in 1960, topping Elvis Presley and The Sound of Music cast album.
