The boxing match at the MGM Grand today between Floyd "Money" Mayweather and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez was set to break pay-per-view (PPV) records. Golden Boy Promotions Chief Executive Officer Richard Schaefer said that the fight could be the highest-grossing PPV event.

In an interview with Boxing Scene, Schaefer said that he is confident about the fight's ability to break even the highest gross held by the De La Hoya-Mayweather fight. He said, "I'm pretty confident that it will be over 2 million [buys], very confident. It will break the highest gross [of $136,000 million by De La Hoya-Mayweather]."

One of the reasons why the event would be able to break the gross PPV records was the increased prices. Those who want to witness the fight live on high definition would be paying USD 75. The fee for standard viewing only costs USD 65.

Aside from the PPV buy, the gate record for the match had already risen to more than USD 20 million.
