On Thursday, startup HourlyNerd would be announcing that it has raised a total of USD750,000. The most intriguing part of the announcement is that it had Marc Cuban as one of its investors.

Cuban, a billionaire investor and star of ABC's venture capital reality show "Shark Tank", committed USD450,000 to the company, said co-founder Robert Biederman. An email was sent by HourlyNerd to Cuban in July to ask money for its startup, and Cuban responded with a yes within 15 minutes.  After sorting out legalities with Cuban's lawyers, Biederman received news that Cuban would be pledging more than what they had expected.

"My heart kind of stopped. It was definitely the most exciting moment of my business career," he said.

HourlyNerd provides a network of MBA students and graduate contacts looking for part-time consultation work to companies.

In an e-mail, Cuban said, "I invested because I saw the value the service offered to many of my portfolio companies. For any number of reasons, it's hard for start-ups and early stage companies to hire great brain power. HourlyNerd allows these companies to bring in affordable expertise and pay for it only as long as you need it."

HourlyNerd also received funding from Accanto Partners and Connect Ventures. The startup company would also be having founding partner Robert Doris of Accanto on its board.
