The casino proposal of Hard International for West Springfield, Massachusetts was rejected by voters in West Springfield, Massachusetts. The Boston Globe reported yesterday that about 55% of the voters rejected the proposal.

Hard Rock was one of the three companies seeking to win the sole license to operate a casino in the western part of Massachusetts. State regulations required voters in host communities to give or deny their approval of the proposals by conducting a local referendum.

In an email sent to Bloomberg, Hard Rock International said they respected the voter's decision. "We respect their decision and thank them for welcoming us into their community for the past eight months," the company said.

MGM Resorts International and the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority remained the only companies vying for the license. MGM proposed to build a casino in Springfield while Mohegan was seeking license for construction in Palmer. In addition to the license in the western part of the state, one license would also be given for the central and eastern portions of the state.
