According to Reuters, Ford Motor Co CEO Alan Mulally and Computer Sciences Corp CEO Mike Lawrie might be added in the shortlist as replacement to outgoing Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer. Citing several sources who were familiar with the matter, at least three from Microsoft's top 20 investors are pushing the names for the tech giant's board to be added in the shortlist as they would want a turnaround expert for Microsoft.

Late last month, Ballmer made an announcement that he would be retiring as CEO of Microsoft within the next 12 months. The tech company has been scrambling to find a suitable replacement by setting up a special committee to oversee the hiring of its next CEO.

One of the sources told Reuters that in one of the many meetings with the company's shareholders, a list of candidates was drawn. The list contained 40 names from within and outside Microsoft. However, Reuters wasn't sure whether Microsoft had established contact or even considered the names in the list as candidates.

When asked on Monday, Microsoft declined to give comment to Reuters on the matter. Lawrie and Mullaly were unavailable for comment, but Mullaly had told the news agency last week, "(I am) absolutely focused on serving our Ford."
