Facebook Inc. announced that selected news organizations would now be able to display public posts from users that mentions any topic in real time. This was after a series of rollout features had been launched by the social media giant. This included embedded posts and trending topics as well as hashtags.

The release had been made available to a small group of media organizations including CNN, NBC's Today Show, Buzzfeed and BSkyB. The latest move of Facebook was to contend with Twitter and be able to gauge public opinion and get quotes on events and public affairs.

However, Facebook would have to deal with its privacy policy and the perception of its users that their wall is not a public space. Therefore, only posts that have been made public or posted on a public wall would be utilized.

Headquartered in Menlo, California, Facebook began selling stocks to the public and trading on the NASDAQ last May 18, 2012. This was after the social media giant filed an initial public offering on February. The company had also joined the list of Fortune 500 companies after reaching a USD5.1 billion income last year.
