Railway network in UAE completes first phase

The first phase of the multi-billion dollar rail network for UAE is acheduled for inauguration for the end of 2013. This was confirmed by a senior official of the rail network project.

UAE's Minister of Public Works and Chairman of the UAE National Transport Authority Abdullah bin Mohammed Belhaif Al Nuaimi stated that the Gulf coast country plans to invest USD25 billion for its railway infrastructure development as part of its long term 2020 to 2030 development plan.

Al Nuaimi said, "We hope to inaugurate phase one by the end of this year and phase two has already started." He made the comment at an interview with news agency WAM. He added, "Since the projects are to be completed within the next six to seven years, we need to have some spare amount of money for new technologies and new products that enter the market."

The network of railways is planned into three phases. It is part of a wider GCC network of railways with the goal that connects all the six Gulf countries.
