An injunction was entered last Friday against Apple by the US judge that found Apple to have conspired to control e-book prices. US District Judge Denise Cole of Manhattan found that Apple could not enter into an agreement with major publishers in the United States. The five major publishers could not impede the firm's ability in reducing the cost of e-book retail prices.

The injunction would have the effect of barring the maker of the iconic iPad from committing any other antirust violations. The judge would also be appointing an external monitor for the review of Apple's antitrust compliance policies and other matters for a period of two years.

Last July 10, Judge Cole found that Apple had worked with five publishers that would only serve to undermine the pricing of Amazon, com, the world's dominant retailer. The five publishers had already entered into compromise agreements with the government regulatory authorities. Her injunction is to be applied 'to rest as lightly as possible on how Apple runs its business.'
