Venture Capital funding in life sciences up 26% in 2013 second quarter

According to a news report by PriceWaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association, venture capital funding towards life sciences companies went up 26% in the second quarter of this year.

PricewaterhouseCoopers, who trades as PwC, is a multinational firm headquarted in London. The company provides accounting services and is ranked as among the world's largest in terms of 2012 revenues. The National Venture Capital Association represents the US venture capital industry in national policy debates. The trade association also promotes professional development, standards and interaction within its members. Gilman Louie of In-Q-Tel and Jim Breyer of Accel Partners were former board members.

A total of USD1.8 billion was invested by venture capitalists in a total of 174 life sciences companies. The amount was higher than last year. However, volume in deals were down 7%.

In terms of cities who had the most number investments in life sciences companies, Boston ranked number one. San Francisco companies ranked number two, followed by companies in San Diego.
