South African Airways (SAA) and TAM Airlines inked a codeshare agreement to give travelers increased access to destinations in Africa and Brazil. A codeshare agreement is done between carriers where one airline also gives the same flights conducted by the other.

In a statement, Commercial Acting Manager of SAA Manoj Papa said, "This codeshare provides a platform to tap into the potential that lies in both carriers' respective markets in a manner that would significantly enhance benefits for passengers of both airlines."

The terms of the agreement stipulated that South African passengers would have access to Rio de Janeiro, Porto Alegre, Curitiba, Brasília, Salvador, Florianopolis, Iguaçu Falls, Recife and Belo Horizonte from Sao Paulo in Brazil. Meanwhile, Brazilian travelers going to South Africa would have easy access to Johannesburg, Cape Town, Durban, East London and Port Elizabeth.

TAM Airlines is the Brazilian brand of the LATAM Airlines group which merged with LAN Airlines of Chile last year. Soledad Berrios, the Senior Vice President of Strategic Alliances of the LATAM Airlines Group said, "Together with South African Airways we will make travelling between Brazil and South Africa easier, and the countries will be the gateways of the South American and African continents."
