An internal memo obtained by Reuters showed that Daniel Janes, the Australia co-head of investment banking for Barclays PLC, has resigned from his position. This is the latest high-profile departure from the UK bank. Janes was not immediately available for comment.

Barclays is a major global financial services provider with an extensive international presence in Europe, the Americas, Africa, and Asia. It operates in over 50 countries and employs 140,000 people. Its 300 years of experience in banking gives it the capability to move, lend, invest, and protect money for customers and clients around the world.

The memo had also stated that Janes left to "pursue new challenges".  Co-head Tim Lindley will take sole responsibility for investment banking in Australia and New Zealand. Barclays confirmed Janes' departure.

Janes had helped build Barclays' merger and acquisition unit in Australia. His departure came after Cynthia Whelan vacated her post as country head for Australia in May.
