The website outage of Amazon.com could cost the e-commerce company revenue loss in millions, tech news site VentureBeat reported. Industry observer Puget Sound Business Journal concluded that based on Amazon's median sales of USD117,882 per minute, the company would have lost USD4.7 million in revenue, the report also added.

News reports cited that the outage lasted from 15 to 45 minutes, and the company has not disclosed reasons of why it went out.

However, Amazon seems to acknowledge the website, said Manhattan-based the New York Observer, and even posted a message on the e-commerce site's address to reboot the site. "Oops! We're very sorry, but we're having trouble doing what you just asked us to do. Please give us another chance-click the Back button on your browser and try your request again. Or start from the beginning on our homepage," the message read, adding a return link to Amazon's website. Graphics in the message also varied from a picture book to a Young Adult fiction book.

The website outage appeared to have been concentrated in US and Canada only. No reports corroborated information if the outage was felt by customers outside North America.

This is not the only time that a well-established webiste went down. Washington Post, CNN and Time Magazine had serious site breaches, and an online extremist acknowledged the hacking, BBC reported.
