Sasol sold its 50% stake in Arya Sasol Polymer Co, its Iranian unit. The buyer was Main Street 1095 (Pty) Ltd, a South African firm. Main Street is a subsidiary of an investor in Iran. No financial details about the transaction were disclosed.

Sasol wrote down the value of Arya in two separate occasions before the sale. The first writedown happened in February 8 when the value of the Iranian business was written down by ZAR 1.97 billion. The second happened in June 30 when the value of Arya was further cut by ZAR 1.6 billion. In a statement issued on August 1, Sasol said the carrying value of Arya was ZAR 2.3 billion.

The sale to Main Street leaves Sasol with "no ongoing investment in Iran," it said. Pars Petrochemical Co of Iran co-owns Arya. Pars Petrochemical is a subsidiary of The National Petrochemical Co, a manufacturer of polyethylene, polypropylene, polystyrene, and hexane. It is a state-owned company.
