In India, demand for petrol cars increased after a 25-month hiatus.  The consistent soar in costs of diesel cars initiated a quick jump for the country's sales of petrol cars. This year, records indicated a decrease in sales for diesel cars at 42% in the first quarter compared to last year's 54%.

With the steady diesel price hikes of oil companies, consumers are turning to petrol cars as a cheaper alternative, according to comments made by anonymous executives from top automobile businesses.

According to reported numbers, auto manufacturers experienced an increase in petrol car sales last month as diesel car sales dropped in July.  Fuel consumption also corroborated the change with a negative growth rate of diesel products and cars in June.

"There has been a growth of 5.5 % in the consumption of petrol in June, compared to an abnormally high growth of 31.2% during May, 2013. But, diesel consumption in June recorded a negative 1.9% growth," an official in the Petroleum Planning & Analysis Cell said in a recent report.

However, corporations in the industry are positive that sales of both petrol and diesel cars will eventually balance out in the near future.
