On Friday, the US International Trade Commission ruled that some of Samsung Electronics Co.'s mobile devices infringed on Apple Inc.'s patent. Samsung's devices would face a sales and import ban in the US.

ITC found that Samsung violated Apple's patents on the touch screens' operations and the headphone jacks' detection. The panel decided to prohibit the South Korean company hence, it would not be able to import, sell and distribute its devices in the US that breached on particular claims on the said patents.

The exclusion orders were already sent to US President Barack Obama. Obama was given 60 days to review the ruling. If he would not veto the court order, it would go into effect.

The decision was expected to hurt Samsung's sales and fuel long-running disputes between the world's leading smartphone makers. The ruling was also projected to spark a rebuke from the government of South Korea.

Samsung and Apple have been fighting for patents to get a higher share of the US$293.9 billion market. The data compiled by Bloomberg showed that the figure signified a 34% climb from 2012.
