Several JetBlue passengers were injured Thursday when a sudden drop in altitude forced an emergency landing in Florida, officials said.

The Airbus A320, JetBlue Flight 1230, was traveling from Cancun, Mexico, to Newark Liberty International Airport in New Jersey when the incident occurred.

The flight was diverted to Tampa International Airport, where it landed safely at around 2:19 pm Eastern Time, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), USA Today Reported.

The FAA confirmed it is investigating the incident, which involved a rapid altitude change that caused injuries among passengers and crew members.

"We've got at least three people injured. It seems like maybe a laceration in the head," a radio call from the flight revealed, captured by LiveATC.net.

JetBlue has 162 seats on the Airbus A320, and medical personnel met the flight upon arrival. Passengers and crew were evaluated at the airport, with some transported to local hospitals for further treatment.

The airline did not immediately release the total number of injuries or their severity.

"Our team has taken the aircraft out of service for inspection, and we will conduct a full investigation to determine the cause," JetBlue said in a statement.

"The safety of our customers and crewmembers is always our first priority, and we will work to support those involved."

FAA Probes JetBlue's Sudden Florida Altitude Drop

The incident has raised concern among travelers, as sudden turbulence and altitude drops are uncommon but can be dangerous.

Emergency diversions are designed to ensure safety in situations like this, but the abrupt nature of the drop left passengers shaken.

According to AP News, JetBlue officials confirmed that the aircraft will undergo a full inspection before returning to service.

Meanwhile, the FAA continues to gather information and examine flight data to understand what caused the unexpected drop.

The airline emphasized that supporting passengers and crew is a top priority. Medical teams at Tampa International Airport worked quickly to provide care, demonstrating the coordinated response protocols that airlines follow during in-flight emergencies.

For now, JetBlue passengers and the public are awaiting the results of the investigation, which will determine whether the incident was due to turbulence, technical issues, or other factors.
