Kentucky Attorney General Russell Coleman announced Tuesday that his office has filed a lawsuit against Roblox, the popular online gaming platform, accusing it of failing to protect children from dangerous content and predators.

Coleman called Roblox a "playground for predators" and said the company has not done enough to keep kids safe.

The lawsuit, filed Monday in Madison Circuit Court, claims Roblox has weak safety measures. Coleman said the platform needs better age verification, stronger content filters, and more alerts to parents about potential dangers.

According to CBS News, the complaint alleges children are exposed to violent and sexual content, and predators use the game's in-game currency, called "Robux," to lure kids into harmful situations.

At a news conference, Kentucky mom Courtney Norris shared her experience. She once thought Roblox was a safe place for her children to play.

"I came to realize, later than I would like to admit, that it actually is the 'Wild West' of the internet, targeted at children," she said.

Norris described Roblox as a "fenced-in backyard" that looks safe but is difficult for parents to control.

Roblox responded by saying it has many safety tools, including advanced artificial intelligence and a team working 24/7 to monitor content.

Roblox Adds 100 New Safety Features

The company said it recently added 100 new safety features, like facial age estimation, and restricts messaging for users under 13 unless parents change the settings.

Roblox said it also uses strong filters to block bad words and stops users from sharing personal information or images.

Despite these efforts, the lawsuit paints a very different picture. It says Roblox fails to warn users and parents about the risks and has not installed basic safety controls.

Coleman warned, "Underneath this cartoonish, innocent veneer is something sinister."

The suit also points out that children have been contacted by strangers using third-party chat apps that look like part of the game.

Roblox has more than 111 million daily users worldwide, AP News reported.

The lawsuit comes as the company faces similar legal challenges in other states, including Louisiana and Iowa, where a tragic case involved a 13-year-old girl who was kidnapped and trafficked after meeting a predator on the platform.

Coleman said his office is open to working with Roblox to improve safety. "Our goal is not to shut a platform down. Our goal is for Roblox to be safe," he said.
