The latest survey on private equity firm investments in real estate from Cushman & Wakefield, a real estate consultancy firm, revealed that approximately US$2 billion or INR11,800 crore is available for investments in the Indian real estate market. These funds come from private equity firms alone and are meant to be utilized in the Indian real estate sector.

The figures came amid a dip in private equity investment inflows in the first six months of 2013. Official figures suggests private equity investment inflow dropped by approximately 46%. The private equity fund investments in Indian real estate was documented at US$276 million in first six months of 2013. The figure pales in comparison to last year's US$514 million in the same time period.

"Investors are willing to invest in real estate; however they are exploring the market for right real estate projects. We anticipate that in the next few quarters, after some regulatory and politico-economic environment are regularised, the momentum in real estate will pick up throwing open more investible options for the investors," Cushman & Wakefield South Asia's executive managing director Sanjay Dutt explaining how investors were still very cautious.
