The next step in Facebook's plan to expand its market is not via its profitable advertisement or social media department. In a move with surprised followers, the social media giant announced that it will be diving into the young but competitive realm of mobile game publishing.

Facebook said that their move into the industry will start soon after its exit with social games developer Zynga. The split, which started in November last year, enabled the web titan to create its own games. Zynga was also able to publish its games in other platforms besides Facebook.

The agreement's dissolution also meant the Zynga games will not be exclusive to the social network anymore.

The move by the company to develop its games division surprised analysts. They said that the company gained so much revenue from apps with advertisements. Despite gaining in the stock market and posting great figures, the company failed to penetrate the mobile platform, relative to competitors such as Apple and Google.

Facebook will be fighting for the 800 million mobile game users in the market. According to analysts, almost 260 million of them play mobile games on Facebook itself, which the company said puts them at an advantage.
