ACON, CIPEF purchase Colombian oil producer Vetra

Acon Investments LLC (ACON) and Capital International Private Equity Fund VI (CIPEF IV) combined resources to acquire Colombian gas and oil producer Vetra Energia. The two companies purchased the oil unit from Spanish investment firm Inveravante and several minority shareholders. Inveravante and its partners retained their hold in Monclova Pirineo Gas, an oil services unit that operates four block sin Mexico that was designed based on Vetra.

Vetra, one of the largest independent oil producers in Colombia, was established by Vetra Chairman Humberto Calderon Berti, CEO Ignacio Layrisse and their group of Venezuelan oil industry veterans.

Private equity firm ACON was founded in 1996 and has US$2.8 billion of capital managed. CIPEF, established in 1992, has focused on investing in leading companies worldwide that totals 78 investments across 25 countries to date.

The oil company's net production for the first half of this year exceeded 6,100 BPD as a result of extensive exploration and production initiatives in Llanos, Putamayo and Middle Magdalena Basins. The success of the drilling projects in Cohembi (Putamayo) and Santo Domingo (Llanos) areas increased Vetra's production by 68% per annum and jumped tp 8,243 BPD by June 30th.
