TikTok Challenges App Ban by Suing US Government

In April, the US government passed a new bill to ban TikTok nationwide. Because of this, TikTok's owner wants to stop the bill from being implemented by suing the government, as reported by NBC News.

In the new federal lawsuit, ByteDance argued that the US government would violate constitutional protections of free speech by enforcing the new bill: Protecting Americans From Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act.

"For the first time in history, Congress has enacted a law that subjects a single, named speech platform to a permanent, nationwide ban," said the TikTok owner in its legal action.

It added that the nationwide TikTok ban would prevent every American from using a unique online community with over 1 billion users across the globe.

US Plans To Ban DJI Next

According to Ride Apart, US lawmakers plan to ban Chinese camera maker DJI after finding footing in restricting TikTok across the country. People familiar with the plan said the potential DJI ban could be proposed for similar reasons.

The Countering CCP Drones Act states that DJI can no longer operate on the United States' communication infrastructure. It would effectively ban DJI from the American market if it becomes law.

The Congress argues that the DJI software has issues that could be exploited to install malware, allowing hackers to steal user data, gain access to critical logs, and infect systems.
