Elon Musk has expressed concerns about the potential destructive power of artificial intelligence (AI), but he remains firm in his belief that AI development is worth the risk.
During a "Great AI Debate" seminar at the Abundance Summit this March, the tech executive re-calculated his recent AI risk assessment. Here's what the billionaire revealed.
According to Business Insider's latest report, Elon Musk said that there's a chance that AI could "end humanity." British-Canadian computer scientist Geoff Hinton agreed with the billionaire.
Hinton, who is also considered the "Godfather of AI," said that he agrees that there's a 10% or 20% chance of artificial intelligence destroying human civilization.
However, Geoff Hinton said that the benefits that AI can offer outweigh the risks it poses.
"I think that the probable positive scenario outweighs the negative scenario," explained Hinton.

In 2023, over 40% of CEOs warned that AI development could destroy humanity in five to 10 years, as reported by CNN Business.
This was revealed in the previous survey at the Yale CEO Summit 2023. In the survey, 8% of the CEOs said that AI could destroy humanity within five years. Meanwhile, 34% of them believe that this could happen in ten years.
But, 58% of the participating business leaders disagree, saying that there's no chance AI could destroy humanity.
