Oakland Business Owner Expresses Frustration Over Easter Sunday Burglary

"Really Oakland? On Easter Sunday? Omg my heart is broken and so many things have been stolen!" she lamented in an Instagram post.

The break-in, which occurred at the store's Broadway location at 2355 Broadway Suite 1, was discovered by Jay as she approached her store.

The shattered glass window immediately caught her attention, which signaled trouble. Upon entering the premises, Jay found an unsettling scene-empty racks, missing merchandise, and disarray, KRON reported.

According to the business owner, the burglar made off with a significant haul. He pilfered the store's inventory, including its new skin collection samples and its point-of-sale system, including iPads, which were essential for business operations.

"Mayor[,] what are you doing to stop this madness? Our insurance isn't going to cover this s***... [W]e feel so violated as if business hasn't already been hard," Jay expressed her frustration.

In another Instagram post, the owner released CCTV footage of the act.

The perpetrator, dressed in a black hoodie and a cap, was captured on camera smashing through the shop's glass window. Upon gaining entry, he utilized his bag to collect stolen items. He also seized a few of the store's suitcases from the backroom to accommodate additional stolen items.

In a city already grappling with challenges, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the harsh realities small businesses face in Oakland.

"Oakland has got to change," urged Jay. The owner has appealed for support and is currently welcoming donations.
