Smartphone market share - Samsung dominates, Lenovo swells

Global market share during the latest quarter decreased for Samsung amid reports of increased shipments of their products per year. According to statistics from the International Data Corporation, the Korean tech giant managed to ship 20 million more gadgets within the past quarter.

Global shipments of smartphones increased, according to the IDC. Last year, online 156.2 million units were shipped compared to this year's 237.9 million. The increase was equal to 52.3%.

The Korean company still led the pack with a 30.4% hold of the total market share, while Apple settled at second with only 13.1% of the market share. Apple managed to ship 31.3 million units, more than the past quarter's 26 million. The third company with the most shipped units was LG, which took over 5.1% of the market share. This was a giant boost from LG's 2012 hold of only 3.7%.

Lenovo rounded out the top four companies with 4.7% of the market share. Lenovo posted the most growth within the year with an unexpected growth rate of 130.6%.
