Dell's Project Ophelia was expected to be available for the consumers in the coming months. Ophelia was a thumb-sized computer. It was already shipped for beta testing.

Dell's new product would look like a USB stick. It could be plugged into any high definition multimedia interface port. Furthermore, it could transform a screen into a computer or gaming device. Ophelia was installed with an Android operating system hence it could permit the users to access their data on the cloud so that they could play games and stream media.

Dell hopes that people would see Ophelia as an alternative to personal computers. The PC industry was already reported to be struggling because of the growing popularity of smartphones and tablets. Ophelia, together with cloud computing, were the company's solutions to decreasing PC sales and rivalry with stronger tech titans.

In May, Dell reported a 79% slump in profit while PC sales continued to shrink. Its net income slid to US$130 million from last year's US$635 million. Excluding its other products, the income of the third-biggest PC maker went tdown 51% to US$372 million or 21 cent each share from US$761 million or 43 cents a year ago.
