Prolexic Technologies, a specialist in Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection, raised US $30 million in series C funding led by Trident Capital and Intel Capital.

The money will be used to boost the capacity and security of its system, as well as expand its scrubbing center operations. It has four scrubbing centers based in San Jose, Ashaburn, VA., Hong Kong and London.

Prolexic is the first cloud-based DDoS mitigation platform. They count ten of the world's largest banks as their clients.

Prolexic already fought off two major DDoS attacks this year and was able to restore systems within minutes. One attack recorded was 167 Gigabits per second and the other recorded at 144 million packets per second.

Gustavo Alberelli, Trident Capital's managing director, said that he noticed Prolexic was the DDoS protection service of choice by companies and governments. He also added "I'm excited to continue working with Prolexic management and providing Trident's IT security expertise to help Prolexic continue its rapid expansion."
