Joss Whedon just comes right out and said on an interview that he's totally be down to direct a Star Wars movie.

Joss Whedon had been off, away from major blockbusters since his last film, The Avengers: Age of Ultron. But however, this does not stopped his name being linked with some big franchises and Star Wars movie is one that keeps coming up in conversation.

Joss Whedon also said to an interview "I mean , it's a funny thing to do, to put yourself in the service of something if you think you can add an interpretation. It's no different than any other story telling. There are some times that you get micro-managed to death but with Marvel they let me make two movies that were very much mine. So do I want to make a James Bond movie? Yeah. Anne Hathaway does Catwoman again? Sure, I'm in. Do I want to make a Star Wars movie? Yeah. I was like, "I don't want to make a Start Wars movie. Like god dammit, why?" But I saw the trailer for Rogue a wile ago and I was like, "I want to do that." To make a Star Wars movie ad not be wed to the bigger picture."

At first, when Joss Whedon is asked in the past about whether he would want to contribute to the Star Wars universe, Joss Whedon was hesitant to do so because he doesn't want to be involved with the "big picture."
To be fair, Whedon also told Collider about his openness to doing both a Catwoman film and/or a James Bond movie, so his newfound enthusiasm could be more about returning to franchise filmmaking more than it is a particularly active desire to take a whack at A Star Wars Story. But the combination of Whedon and the non- Episode Star Wars movies is too tantalizing to leave unexplored.

Of course, any theoretical Whedon Star Wars movie would have to wait until 2020 at least, since the next few years are taken up with Rogue One, Star Wars: Episode 8, the untitled Han Solo movie and Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019. In the meantime, Whedon will be working on his new movie; what he describes as "a historical fiction slash horror movie about a time when the world was going insane, World War II."
