On Wednesday, Google Inc.'s event did not fail the technology observers with its refreshed Nexus 7 line up and a small dongle worth US$35, Chromecast. Chromecast would use the technology utilized behind Chrome browser. This would allow users to broadcast streaming video from the internet to the consumer's television set.

The new device from Google would vie against Apple TV and all the Roku devices. Roku provided consumers with hundreds of channels. Roku signed a contract with Amazon Instant Video, HBO, Hulu Plus, Netflix, Pandora and several sports channels. However, it does not have an access to YouTube which provides many great contents. Conversely, Apple TV does not have many channels that could be accessed through Roku. It has every channel that users would need including YouTube but it lacked access to Amazon Instant Video.

Compared with the other two, Chromecast owned the least amount of content. Then again, Google planned to include a software developer kit for Chromecast that would enable many developers to use their apps with the device.

Roku's price ranged from US$49.99 to US$99.99, depending on the quality and number of channels you wanted to access. On the other hand, the Apple TV costs US$99.

Google's latest innovation was expected to raise more earnings for the company. It would further pose problems to its rivals hence, the sales of Apple TV and Roku was anticipated to decline.
