A total of 44 workers were evacuated after a natural gas rig exploded in the Gulf of Mexico today. No injuries were reported as of current writing.

The blast occurred this morning 88.5 kilometers away from the coast of Louisiana. The natural gas well is owned by a company called Hercules Offshore. The company said that no oil spillage happened due to the explosion. Specialists are currently studying methods on how to shut down the natural gas presently flowing irrepressibly.

"According to federal officials, there is no imminent danger at this time," announced Louisiana head of homeland security. The Bureau of Safety and Environmental Enforcement told the media that observers noted a "light sheen over the area." Reports said that the said anomaly was quickly dissipating.

The natural gas industry provides clean fuels to other segments of the United States economy. Hercules Offshore, analysts said, handled the accident with quick risk management. Shares of the company, however, tumbled in the stock market as of current trading.
