Google Fiber has announced on Wednesday planning to introduce its service to some apartments, condos and affordable house properties in San Francisco. The lightning fast gigabit internet service will be provided through existing fiber optic cable instead of building own network.

The move has been planned in order to bring the service to residents more quickly. San Francisco appears as the 22nd metropolitan area where Google Fiber has decided to allow access, reports TechCrunch.

Earlier on Monday, the Alphabet subsidiary has announced bringing its service to Huntsville, Alabama for licensing the city owned fiber optic infrastructure and share with other providers. The recent announcement appears in line with the previous one. Use of existing fiber to connect some apartments and condos, Google Fiber becomes able to bring the service to residents more quickly; reports Wired quoting Michael Slinger, director of business operations for Google Fiber.

The multiple services provider is looking for more ways to serve cities of different shapes and sizes. Google Fiber has already taken this approach in a couple of other markets, according to a report published in The Verge.

Google Fiber also plans to provide free gigabit internet service to some public and affordable housing properties in San Francisco. The Alphabet subsidiary has partnered with the Nonprofit Technology Network to bring the Digital Inclusion Fellowship to San Francisco.

The partner will hire fellows to educate people on basic technology and internet usage skills aiming to better their lives. The service provider expects to make the internet more affordable and accessible for the people, affected most by the digital divide.

San Francisco is generally treated as a tech city and hence it's a bit late for the Google Fiber party. The service is already available in Kansas City, Austin, Texas, Provo, Utah, Atlanta and Georgia. Fiber has also slated many other cities including San Antonio and Nashville.

Any launch in San Francisco is a big step for Google Fiber though it may not have planned to blanket the entire city. However, businesses will find new uses for it with availability of gigabit internet, as happened in case of Netflix.

This appears to be the second time, Google is trying to offer internet in San Francisco. Google and Earthlink have proposed a city-wide WiFi service in San Francisco in 2007. However, the initiative has ultimately gone in vein.

Google Fiber has announced on Wednesday planning to introduce lightning speed internet service in some places with existing optical fiber network. Though the plan doesn't cover the entire city, but it also plans to provide free gigabit internet service to some public and affordable housing properties in San Francisco. San Francisco appears as the 22nd metropolitan area where Google Fiber has decided to allow access.
