Despite the city of Detroit's filing for bankruptcy, the Detroit Red Wings are looking optimistic. According to them, the team is looking forward to play in a new arena. Other sports teams based on the city are unfazed.

The Detroit Tigers will be defending their title as American League champs, while the Detroit Lions are in good shape for next season's football tournament.

The Detroit government filed a Chapter 9 protection yesterday - the end of a long struggle of the city to keep its finances afloat despite billions of dollars' worth of debt sinking it over the past decade.

"We do not anticipate that yesterday's announcement will have any impact on Lions home games or our many other events at Ford Field," said the Lions in a statement made on Friday. "We remain confident in the city of Detroit and in its future."

The filing of Detroit was considered as the largest bankruptcy protection request made in the United States.
