Comic Con requested its followers on social media, which was now in the millions, for US$1 each. The company laid this out as a way for fans to join in the "non-studio/real effects" revolution. If fans would give in to this request, Comic Con aimed to reach as much as US$1 million. In so doing, this would become the third largest funded project in the history of Kickstarter. The largest Kickstarter-funded project did not involve a huge actor nor a studio. The fundraising was for a new franchise, "Fire City: The Interpreter of Signs."

The franchise involved Stan Winston, who made the jump from being a director to a visual technician for the project. Winston was known for special effects of the movies "Aliens", "Terminator", and "Avatar." In addition, Tom Woodruff teamed up with Dennis Murphy. Murphy line produced "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Tales from The Crypt", "Enough", and "The Bridge." Murphy will be working with Brian Lubocki and Michael Hayes, the content creators of Fire City. Lubocki and Hayes will also be the franchise's producers.
