Sika buys two Aussie companies, expands reach in mining sector

Sika bolstered its position in the mining industry after acquiring Radmix Resources Pty. Ltd.and its partner Australian Synthetic Fibres Pty. Ltd.  Both acquisitions recorded sales amounting to CHF 8 million. Reports also reveal that Sika will integrate both companies into its Australian headquarters.

Radmix manufactures structural fibres which are used for shotcrete to support underground excavations in mining sector. Sika products are already well-entrenched in the industry, particularly its waterproofing, sealing and coatings lines.

Radmix founder Ray Desmond said the acquisition of Radmix and ASF by Sika gives the company new opportunities. "Our staff looks forward to the synergies that will come with Sika and to being a part of the Sika team."

The official said that Sika's high value products and the technological know-how of Radmix will hopefully lead to the development of new innovative products.

Sika regional manager for the Asia-Pacific Heinz Gisel said the acquisition is an opportunity for the company to attain its goal of becoming the "number one supplier of synthetic fibres in the region's mining industry."
