Amazon.com Celebrates Golden Globe Win By Discounting Its Prime Membership

Amazon original series, "Mozart in the Jungle" won two awards in the Golden Globe last Sunday. As a celebration, the Seattle-based company will stream all of the series for free this weekend and cutting down the price for Amazon Prime membership.

Golden Globe is one of the most prestigious award in film and television industry and presented by 93 members of Hollywood Foreign Press Association, (HFPA), the organization of journalists and photographer in entertainment industry. The award is presented annually for achievement in both U.S. and international television and film industry.

In the 73rd Golden Globe award last Sunday, Amazon original series, Mozart in the Jungle surprisingly won two awards for Best TV Comedy Series and Best Actor in TV Comedy for Gael García Bernal. Produced by Roman Coppola for Amazon Studios, the series was first aired in February 2014 and it has come to its second season since February 2015. The series is a comedy with the setting in classical music world.

Vice President of Amazon Studios Roy Price said in a statement, "What an incredible honor to be recognized by the Hollywood Foreign Press two years in a row. It's gratifying and exciting to see the success of Mozart in the Jungle."

As a celebration to win the prestigious Golden Globe Award, The Verge reported that Amazon will stream the entire two seasons of the series for free this weekend. Normally, in order to watch the series, we need to subscribe to Amazon Prime, because Mozart in the Jungle was aired in Amazon Prime Video network. The Amazon Prime Video is only available in United States, United Kingdom, Japan, Germany, and Austria.

Furthermore, Amazon Prime also cuts its subscription price to $73 a year for new member, as Time Magazine reported, from the $99 regular price. The discount will start on Friday, January 15 and to end on Sunday, January 17.

For the current subscribers, Amazon also provide a new way to reduce their subscription to the same price as new subscriber. CNET explained the Amazon instruction for current users of Amazon Prime to enjoy discounted subscription price..

Current subscribers needed to disable their auto-renewal Prime membership. Next, purchase the gift membership at promotional price, and request the gift card be delivered the day after their Prime membership expires. With the gift card and an expired account, current subscribers should be able to renew subscription at the discounted rate.

In winning two awards for Mozart in the Jungle, Amazon won over its video-streaming competitor Netflix, which did not win single award  this year. Discounted subscription fee as means to celebrate the awards will be effective starting Friday morning and ended on Sunday afternoon.
