Dow Jones VentureSource, a data service of Dow Jones & Co., released their latest data on the US venture investment scene. Data indicated that the US climate for venture investment cooled in the first half of 2013. This was due to seed-stage deals receiving caution from investors, sluggish fundraising, and consumer Internet companies seeing less enthusiasm from investors.

Data from VentureSource reported that there was a 12% decrease in deals. Investment also saw a decline of 10.3%. Venture-backed fundraising from more than 1,000 companies also declined. From US$16.28 million raised in the first six months last year, there was only a total of US$14.6 billion funds raised during the same period this year. Only healthcare presented a "few bright spots."

In addition, the median size of first rounds in the first six months this year was US$2.1 million. This was well below last year's median of US$2.7 million. This was also the first time the value has dipped below US$3 million since 1994.
