'X-Men: Apocalypse' leading actor James McAvoy explains the reason behind Professor X's hair loss. The upcoming film is said to replace familiar characters with new ones. Newcomers such as Sophie Turner, Alexandra Shipp and Tye Sheridan may usher in a new era of heroes in future films.

According to Den of Geek, James McAvoy recently revealed how his character Charles Xavier a.k.a. Professor X is going to lose his hair by the end of the film. McAvoy appeared on The Graham Norton Show last November 27, 2015 promoting his upcoming science-fiction horror film 'Victor Frankenstein' with co-actor Daniel Radcliff. He teased, "He ends up going through something so horrible and physically painful that he literally half pulls his hair out, half it falls out... Maybe, or maybe not..."

The actor was photographed earlier using the Cerebro machine for the augmentation of Professor X's telepathic abilities. It may seem that the character's hair loss wouldn't be attributed to the degenerative aging process. According to Cinema Blend, a bald Professor X was hinted at in 'X-Men: First Class' with some shaving references.

It remains unknown what kind of horrendous destruction Apocalypse will bring into the upcoming film but it may be quite massive as teased by McAvoy himself. Evan Peters, who plays Quicksilver in the cinematic series, also shared that the upcoming film will be "huge".

According to Comic Book, the new film may usher in a wave of brand new mutants in replacement of familiar favorites. The latest 'X-Men' trilogy, comprised of 'X-Men: First Class', 'X-Men: Days of Future Past', and the upcoming 'X-Men: Apocalypse', centered on the younger versions of Professor X, Magneto and Mystique - played by McAvoy, Michael Fassbender and Jennifer Lawrence. The mutants were originally portrayed by Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Rebecca Romjin respectively.

It may be that the newly cast members of the X-Men may eventually replace familiar characters for future films in the franchise - specifically the recast Cyclops, Jean Grey and Storm. Tye Sheridan, Sophie Turner and Alexandra Shipp are among the newcomers to be featured in the upcoming film. Joining them are Oscar Isaac as En Sabah Nur a.k.a. Apocalypse, Olivia Munn as Psylocke and Lana Condor as Jubilee.

'X-Men: Apocalypse' is an upcoming superhero film based on the characters of Marvel's popular comic book characters. It is the ninth installment in the 'X-Men' live-action series. It is scheduled to be released on May 27, 2016 and is directed by Bryan Singer.
