SMART Modular Technologies Inc. today announced that it has opened its first facility in Taiwan. The company is a premier manufacturer of memory cards, flash memory and other storage devices.

The company's built a research and development facility in Taipei, Taiwan which will design new product lines for advanced memory and storage solutions. The office is also tasked to find new markets in that region.

Alan Marten, Senior Vice President of SMART Modular Technologies, said the Center for Advanced Memory Product Design in Taipei "leverages the high-tech and knowledgeable" Taiwanese workforce.

"SMART's new facility will also enhance our ability to co-develop products with partners in support of new generation memory technologies while helping to accelerate time-to-market," he said in a statement.

With the new facility, SMART is now present in nine locations including UK, Seoul in Korea, Penang in Malaysia, Sao Paolo in Brazil as well as three offices in the US.
