Dell launched the XPS 12 as its new flagship hybrid to rival the Microsoft Surface Pro 4. The Dell XPS 12 offers a 4K touchscreen display, powerful Intel Core M processor, and a cheaper price tag.

In October, Microsoft rolled out the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 as its 2-in-1 tablet/laptop hybrid. Now, the Surface Pro 4 faces competition from hybrids of other manufacturers. Dell released its own hybrid that is deemed as a worthy challenger to the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 tablet, reported The Science Times.

The Dell XPS 12 is also a tablet/laptop hybrid that has two variants. The base model dons an 11.46" touch screen display with 1920 x 1080 full HD resolution. The premium variant has a 4K Ultra HD touchscreen with 3840 x 2160 pixel resolution.

In terms of design, the Dell XPS 12 has a smaller screen than the Microsoft Surface Pro which has a 13" display with 3000 x 2000 resolution. The hardware components of the XPS 12 are located on the tablet part, which is attached to the keyboard with magnets.

Parent Herald said that the Dell XPS 12 sported a more traditional laptop build without the "weird screen-flipping" in 2013. As a result, the users have a more limited viewing angle similar to previous Surface tablets.

The Dell XPS 12 hybrid and the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 are similar in that they run the latest Windows 10 OS. They both have 128GB internal storage for the base model and 256GB storage for the higher-end variant.

Both Dell XPS 12 variants house the latest Intel Core M chipsets capable of running heavy applications. They also have 8GB RAM, a 30 WhrBattery, and Intel HD 515 graphics.

The Dell XPS 12 is equipped with keyboard technology with wide glass precision track pad. It also sports two USB-C ports that can be used for plugging in the charger. It also comes with a magnetic cover that also acts like Microsoft Surface Pro's kickstand, a USB-A adapter, and a folio case.

The Dell XPS 12's base model is priced at $999 while the premium version costs $1299. The Microsoft Surface Pro' base model also costs $999 but its higher-end model has a whopping price of $2199 as per a review by Fstoppers.

Dell's 2-in-1 hybrid is available for purchase at the company's website. The Dell XPS 12 is believed to rival the Microsoft Surface Pro in the laptop/tablet hybrid market.
