Boulder Brands, Inc. has acquired 80% of the shares of Gluco Brands LCC, which owns Level Life Foods.

With its headquarters in Colorado, Level has been producing healthy foods geared toward patients suffering from diabetes. Its Level Life Glucose Gels, for example, assist in balancing out hypoglycaemia for type 1 diabetics.

Boulder Brands is expected to be in the middle of product development and brand promotions for Level's next line of bars and shakes to manage blood sugar levels, carbohydrates while also whetting the appetite. The products will also be marketed toward the pre-diabetics or who have been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

Boulder Brands is the maker of health and wellness products such as Smart Balance, Earth Balance, Glutino for gluten-free products, Udi's and Best Life.

Gluco Brands is expected to present the financial report for the majority acquisition during the company's earnings call scheduled on Aug. 1, 2013.
