It will be an interesting and thrilling season three for Penny Dreadful when the series returns next year.  Showtime recently unveiled the synopsis and promo image for the show's third installment. Meanwhile, avid fans will see new cast members and guest stars in the show.

In a press release posted in TV Series Finale, Showtime unveiled "a chilling first look at the new season featuring Vanessa Ives (Eva Green) as she turns to her alienist Dr. Seward (Patti LuPone in a new role) for help in battling the evil forces she cannot seem to escape".

Tony Award winner LuPone previously guest starred in the series' second season as the Cut-Wife and is now a series regular as an American therapist who treats Vanessa with an unconventional new approach. Another series regular introduced this season is Wes Studi, who will play the role of Kaetenay, "an intense, enigmatic Native American with a deep connection to Ethan (Josh Hartnett) who also becomes an ally to Sir Malcolm (Timothy Dalton)".

Sarah Greene and Simon Russell Beale will also return in the series along with new guest stars Shazas Latif as Dr. Henry Jekyll, Christian Camargo as zoologist Dr. Alexander Sweet, Sam Barnett as Dr. Seward's young mysterious secretary, Justine Barden as Justine, a young acolyte to Lily and Dorian Gray and Perdita Weeks as Catriona Hartdegan, a scholar with expert knowledge of the supernatural.

The promo image posted on TV.com shows Vanessa Ives in a straitjacket lying down on the floor with her head on Dr. Seward's lap. The post also showed a teaser video for the upcoming season.

According to Realty Today, the promo image has raised various questions and speculations on the upcoming season, including a possible angle of Vanessa getting weaker under the care of Dr. Seward, thought the psychiatrist is supposed to help her fight her inner evils.

Penny Dreadful Season 3 will premiere on May 2016 on Showtime.
