Goop was established in 2008 as lifestyle pubication with a theme to encourage its reader to nourish the inner aspect. Founder, Gwyneth Paltrow and Goop CEO Lisa Gersh speak in a The Fast Company Innovation Festival moderated by journalist Katie Couric.

A year after her PBS' food and travel TV series went on-air in 2007, Gwyneth Paltrow established Goop as publisher of lifestyle newsletter. Goop's coverage includes clothing, housewares, personal care products, and lifestyle recommendations hand-selected by Paltrow and her Los Angeles-based editorial team. The name of newsletter was said to be a nickname based on her initial.

Fast Company business magazine recently invited her as one of the speakers in event that showcase stories of innovation, creativity, leadership, in business. In a coverage of Gwyneth Paltrow's session, Fast Company reported her story of Goop, that has evolved into a multi-platform business. Goop has also successfully raised $10 million in Series-A funding led by New Enterprise Associates. The event was moderated by Yahoo Global News Anchor, Katie Couric, and the Academy Award winning actress also accompanied by Goop's CEO, Lisa Gersh. Regarding the philosophy of Goop, miss Paltrow said, "I feel like life is about a balance and I don't think you can live an ascetic life of, you know, seaweed and air and brown rice," Another speakers in the event are Nike's CEO Mark Parker, Tumbler's founder and CEO David Karp and tennis player Serena Williams. Paltrow also talked about moment she called as "Non-Goop" moment, of her inclination toward martinis, cigarette, french fries, and cheese.

Goop is often criticized for its insanely expensive and outrageous choice of goods. As E!-Online wrote sarcastically "There's no question that the 43-year-old's got impeccable taste. It just happens to also be very astronomically expensive taste." E!-Online also listed some of expensive items and Gwyneth Paltrow's comment of those items that E!-Online mentioned as "outrageous" comment. Some of which are $90,000 space travel, $125,000 gold dumbbells and $2,900 Ivan Baj Ruby Gemme Vase.

People Magazine that had an exclusive sneak peek of Goop's holiday gift also said that even Paltrow herself is well aware that some of Goop's gift suggestions are impractical. Some items recommended by Goops for recent holiday gifts are $820 incense set, $1,995 knit sweater and $140 potpouri.

Regardless of how impractical and ridiculous the items Gwyneth Paltrow and team curated, Goop has made a spotlight because of her success as an actres. She also acknowledged the fact of such impractical items as she said it herself in the Fast Company Magazine event.
