African Development Bank's energy sector official Khalid Al Askari said today that the bank have conducted studies on a planned electricity link investment project spanning three countries - Ethiopia, Sudan, and Egypt. This came after the bank's initial feasibility study for the engineering project.

A ten year plan was proposed by the bank, ending in 2022. The plan prioritized the integration of the nations in the region with focus on the energy sector.

Another project is being eyed by the African Development Bank as the Egyptian government expressed interest for a feasibility study about the possibility of creating a shipping route between the Mediterranean and Lake Victoria via the Nile River.

"We have provided the energy sector in Egypt with USD 1.3 billion since 2009," said Askari in an interview by the Asharq Al-Awsat.  "We have provided the energy sector in Egypt with USD 1.3 billion since 2009," and that "there is a project which was concluded in 2012, which is the third phase in the Kuraymat Power Station, with a capacity of 750 megawatts," he summed.
