Domtar Acquires Associated Hygienic Products

Domtar Corporation closed a deal to acquire Associated Hygienic Products; however, the amount of the acquisition remained undisclosed. The purchase was strategically made in order for Domtar to have a stronger Personal Care segment, specifically its baby diaper product category.

Associated Hygienic Products was a wholly-owned subsidiary of disposable diaper field pioneer Disposable Soft Goods International (DSG). DSG, a Thailand-based firm, has expanded its operations across seven locations worldwide since its inception in 1972.

Founded in 1984, Associated Hygienic Products has become North America's third largest diaper manufacturer. The company, which headquarters was located in Duluth, boasted of its Delaware and Waco manufacturing and distribution facilities.

Meanwhile, Domtar marketed uncoated freesheet paper brands Cougar, Fist Choice, Lynx Opaque Ultra, Domtar EarthChoice, and Husky Opaque Offset. Aside from this, the company manufactured and distributed communication papers, specialty and packaging papers, and other fiber-based product. Domtar, operated a network distribution facilities for paper and printing supplies that earned $5.5 in 2012.
