After years of waiting for the first two mainstream hits' follow-up installation, 'Sherlock Holmes 3' is said to be in production. The upcoming film's producer, Lionel Wigram, revealed some production developments in a recent interview. The actor playing the title role of detective Sherlock Holmes, Robert Downey Jr., added to the anticipation by posting a photograph of what seemed to be taken from the film's set on his social media page.

According to Mirror UK, Wigram dropped a big statement about 'Sherlock Holmes 3' being in the works. He said, "We're working on it. I think we have a really good idea, a good concept for it, and we're working on it with Robert and Susan and everybody... We're still trying to crack the story together.

For us, if we're going to do a third Sherlock Holmes, it has to be fantastic, so we have to be really confident that we can give the audience a story that makes them say, 'Wow, this was worth it, this was better than the last two."

Downey Jr.'s wife, Susan, co-produced the last two films with Wigram. Wigram's statement only confirmed Downey Jr.'s announcement in a previous report last year in October regarding the movie's status.

According to Digital Spy, Downey Jr. dropped the early news in a Reddit question and answer session. He said, "Yes, we have a Sherlock 3 in development. We want it to be the best of the series, so that's a pretty tall order."

With development details still scarce as of the present, the first real buzz since its confirmation was generated by Downey Jr. himself when he posted an image on his Facebook page with a caption "Master of disguise..."

According to Movie Pilot, the photograph featured the actor the guise of an elderly man standing in front of an old looking building. It may or may not be from the film but that is yet to be confirmed.

'Sherlock Holmes 3' is most likely set for release on 2017, although, the official date has not been announced yet. Downey Jr.'s performance in the first two movies earned him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy.
