Star Trek 3 is almost just a year away, and it seems like it will be a little different in a good way, as director Justin Lin says it will explore new worlds and races. Actor and writer for the movie, Simon Pegg said that they just recently handed the first draft of the script.

Justin Lin who will be directing Star Trek 3 admitted in an interview that he has always been a fan of Star Trek ever since he was a kid, and so the decision to sit on the director's chair for the movie was something emotional for him. But even though he's a big fan of Star Trek, and an admirer of the work of the previous franchise, he has plans of exploring more in the upcoming film.

"As great as JJ's films were, there's still a lot to be mined from these characters. They haven't really gone on their five-year mission, so what we experienced in the TV show hasn't been touched on yet. That sets up an opportunity for exploration and the deeper you go, the more you are examining humanity. Those are the things that I absorbed as a kid and hope to tap into and embrace and celebrate. By the time this movie comes out, Star Trek will have been around for 50 years." Lin said.

He's apparently taking things one step further as he will reportedly be exploring on creating new races and worlds, "It's all new and fresh. The Klingons, Romulans and other species are great, but it's time to go further. It has been fun to focus on creating whole new worlds and species." he said.

Although Lin did not say much about the progress they made for the film, Simon Pegg, who is not only be playing as Scotty, and is also a screenwriter in the film, revealed that they just recently handed the first draft of the script, a few weeks before filming officially starts.

"We started [working on the scipt] six months before we were due to start shooting, which is insane! In fact, we start shooting in Vancouver in four weeks - and we're only handing in our first draft today." he said in one interview.

The movie will be directed by Lin, and written by Doug Jung, Simon Pegg, and Gene Roddenberry. Filming for the movie will probably start this July, as the movie is slated for release in July 2016.
