"Underworld 5," also called, "Underworld: Next Generation" will see the conflicts between the new generations of vampires and lycans. Kate Beckinsale returns as Selene and is scheduled to start shooting the film by October for a 2016 release.

Details about "Underworld 5" are still scarce but Cinemablend noted that the story's focus remains on the rivalry of vampires and lycans. This time however, new and younger generations of these monsters will spark the conflict.

Kate Beckinsale will remain as the face of the franchise, reprising her role as the vampire warrior Selene, as opposed to the previous reports that the actress will not star in the newest installment.

Beckinsale will be joined by "Divergent" star Theo James, who briefly appeared in "Underworld: Awakening" as the young vampire David.

Previously, James also turned down the "Underworld 5" to make way for his shooting schedule of "Allegiant," where he plays the leading man, Tobias. But recently, the English actor confirmed his return to star opposite Beckinsale.

The production for "Underworld: Next Generation" is expected to kick off on October in Prague, as per The Hollywood Reporter's report. With the given production date, fans of the franchise can expect that the film will hit cinemas in late 2016.

And for the first time in the franchise's history, the movie will be helmed by a female director. Anna Foerster will sit in the director's chair with the script written by Cory Goodman. Foerster is known for her TV directorial works that include, "Outlander" and "Criminal Minds," but has also worked behind the camera for some big screen hits like "White House Down" and "The Day After Tomorrow."

Younger generations of vampires and lycans will reign in "Underworld 5," which will still have Kate Beckinsale as its female lead to be joined by "Divergent" actor Theo James. The movie is set to kick off its production this October in Czech Republic capital, Prague.

"Underworld: Next Generation" is expected to drop in cinemas late 2016.
